The Legend of THE Truckstop
Dateline: Dunbridge, Ohio
In the fall of 2005, I (Mike Drouard) purchased a nice little house in the
colossal metropolis of Dunbridge, Ohio. The house and outbuildings once
housed a very prominent carpet business. I had plans on fixing it up,
making a life for myself and enjoying country living.
In the spring of 2007, I was laid off from my job in the auto industry.
During a counselling session with a former co-worker affectionately
named Beef Stu it was said that due to my proximity to Interstate 75 and
because I had acreage and outbuildings that I should open up a Truckstop.
Shortly thereafter, I jokingly mentioned the opening of the Truckstop to my
father. He laughed and soon birthday and Christmas cards started coming
to THE Dunbridge Truckstop. The inside joke was born.
The name started to get some legs over the next year or so and soon
most of my friends and family started to refer to my residence as
THE Dunbridge Truckstop. Once back to work in 2010, the first “I Love
Dunbridge Truckstop” stickers were hatched.
In 2013, I met the love of my life and fellow mastermind Jenny Hrosko.
She was curious about all things Truckstop and for reasons I will never
fully understand, she fully supports and works tirelessly to perpetuate
my silly ideas. Soon we had the OG “Trucker Girl” logo. Then we had a
more inside joke graphics made. “Ballvalve” was created as an ode to my
plumber father and boom we were selling a few t-shirts. Even if it was
mostly family and friends. But soon we had a little stack of money from
shirt sales. We had some friends that were involved in various fundraisers
so we decided to use the money to sponsor some of these “grassroots”
events. Now we have a website with a full complement of sportswear and
we use the money to sponsor golf holes, spaghetti dinners,
The Victory Center and Acoustics for Autism just to name a few.
Maybe you have an event, reach out, we’ll help if we can.
